Before the Overwatch League restructured, I worked on an early-stage rebrand for the Philadelphia Fusion. The goal was to evolve the team’s identity while staying true to Philadelphia’s grit, intensity, and unmistakable energy.
During the early stages of design the league dissolved entirely and the project was discontinued. What remains is a series of early-stage comps that show the foundation of a brand ready to evolve.
How It Started
Background
The Philadelphia Fusion was one of the original 12 teams in the Overwatch League, carrying the spirit and toughness of the city it represented. In 2022, our team was tasked with developing a new logo and full branding system, a fresh identity that honored the team’s legacy while giving it a bold new edge.

What makes packaging worth saving?
GRAV’s original packaging was practical, but it lacked the personality to match the company’s innovative products. We set out to create a system of packaging that would jump off the shelves and that customers would want to keep.

Concept Buildouts
Singularity
This design aims to evoke the sensation of moving through a singularity with a secondary read paying a subtle homage to Philadelphia’s iconic Liberty Bell
Ignition
This mark captures the moment when stored energy snaps into focused motion, reflecting the fast-paced action at the heart of the Overwatch League.
Shockwave
This execution represents the moment of impact where a single force hits an enemy target. The secondary read is the expanding ripples, which are meant to represent the resonance of the Liberty Bell. A single strike can send vibrations across the entire city.
Reactor
This concept pulls directly from the geometry of tokamak fusion reactors, while simultaneously taking inspiration from the fanlight windows found throughout Philadelphia’s historic rowhomes and architecture.
Pulsebreak
This design is meant to show energy breaking through containment while creating a shape that resembles a black hole. It’s an expression of speed, disruption, and precision.
